The Tri-City Shag Club in Florence, dances every
Saturday night at the Roundhouse. If you aren’t looking for this
location, you might easily overlook it. The Roundhouse is located at
1945 2nd Loop Rd, in a strip mall slightly off the main
road and partially hidden by the shade trees covering the front patio.
Once inside the private membership club, you are welcomed by the aroma
of a food and the sounds of beach music. DJ's Eddie Collins, Jimmy
Bufkin, Herb Thompson and Billy Cook
rotate playing the tunes
on Saturday nights from 8pm till midnight. On Saturday night the pool
tables are pushed to the side revealing a 18’ x 20’ wooden dance floor
at the back of the restaurant area. Tables and booths are available
nearby. With a usual Saturday night crowd of 30-60, the tables
fill up fast. There is no cover charge. Smoking is allowed in the
facility. The second Saturday of the month is the Birthday social night
which brings in the most members. For this social, the club provides
appetizers but a regular menu is available at the bar. Beer is $2.75 and
soft drinks are $1.00.
This club also has an annual weekend
event called the Mama Jama in June and a
Golf tournament. This year the club raised $1700 for Juvenile Diabetes.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere for shag dancing on a Saturday night, and be sure to check out the harmonica player.
