On Oak Island, located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intra-coastal waterway, you’ll find the Society of Brunswick Shaggers, or SOBS. This shag club is fortunate to have 2 locations at which to dance every month. On the 2^nd Friday of the month, the SOBS dance at the VFW on Oak Island, and on the 4^th Friday of the month, they dance at the Oak Island Moose Lodge. For both nights, the DJ starts at 7pm, The cost is only $2 for any shag club member and $5 for guests.

The VFW is the smaller of the clubs with a 12’ x 35’ tile floor with seating for about 100. Smoking is allowed at the separate bar area.

The Moose Lodge has a 24’ x 50’ tile dance floor with seating for about 200. This is a non smoking facility. On special occasions, there is a free line dance or shag lesson before the party starts, and some party dates are special with food brought in by the club members, such as the chili cook-off.

The Society of Brunswick Shaggers has a membership of about 250. These dancers come out early to dance. You will meet dancers from a lot of different home towns in this club, but they are all there for one reason, to enjoy the Carolina shag! If they don’t get enough shag dancing at the party, during the summer hours they can travel on down to the ocean front to listen to some great beach bands on a Friday night at Chasers Beach Club.

Fun club to visit - the SOBS will greet you with open arms ( that just doesn’t sound right does it?!) Their name has got to give you a clue that they have a sense of humor!
