When And Where We Dance |

The Sanford Areas Shag Society or SASS, dances every 3rd Saturday at the VFW in Sanford, NC. Come out a little early and you can learn a new line dance to try out on the floor that night, then at 8pm the club holds their meeting immediately followed by the monthly social. First time guests get in free. Members pay $3 and returning guests pay $5. The VFW has a large 24’ x 38’ wooden dance floor and plenty of seating. With 60 to 80 in attendance on a dance evening, there is plenty of dancing going on and lots of appetizers brought in by the members for everyone to munch on. There is a separate bar area to purchase your drink of choice. Smoking is allowed in the dance area. SASS brings in different DJ’s for the socials.
Lessons are also offered at the VFW on Thursdays. Beginner classes start at 6:30 and Intermediate classes start at 7:30. Each session begins on the first Thursday of the month. Instructors are Sandy Forsythe and Tom Donaghy.
This club also donates to Haven and has a big fundraiser for Make a Wish each year. Since the club was incorporated in 1989, they have donated $200,000 to charity. They have an annual Shag Contest that included 15 couples in the competition and over 200 attendees in the first year.
You’ll also find that many of these club members are also members of nearby sister clubs.
Between lessons, socials, fundraisers and trips to other clubs, this club literally “Shags their SASS off “ and you’ll have fun doing it with them.
