In Richmond, the heart of
Virginia, you’ll find the Richmond Shag Club. They are a strong,
active club of around 400 members. The shag club has the opportunity
to shag three times a week at Visions Dance Club at the Holiday Inn
Select at Koger Center Blvd. On Tuesday nights, the largest dance
night of the week with usually around 100 shaggers in attendance.
Lessons are offered at 7pm with open dancing afterwards. Thursday
nights offer a beginner shag lesson at 7pm and open dancing
following the lessons. Fridays offer dancing with a DJ and
occasionally a beach music band. There is no cover charge to join in
the dancing on the 24’ x 36’ wooden dance floor to the tunes played
by DJ Cliff Merritt. A menu is available with table seating and
additional bar stools around the dance floor. Smoking is allowed in
the club. In addition to weekly dancing at Visions Dance Club, this
club also sponsors an annual weekend party the first week in August
called “Boogie on the James”.
When you are with The Richmond Shag Club, the dance floor stays full
of dancers and the members are eager to make guests feel at home and
keep them dancing. As their t-shirt says “ Shaggers do it with
Rhythm”.
