When And Where We Dance	One Sat A Month @ K & C Salvage (aka) "The Junkyard"

The Piedmont Shag Association, or PSA, meets in a unique place called “The Junkyard”. It’s actually the home of the owners of K & C Salvage in Harrisburg, NC. The McGee’s built the dance floor area for their shag club to dance when their previous dance/meeting location closed. Extra air conditioning was also put in just for the shag club events.

Club members meet there once a month on Saturday night. They have a large 15’ x 20’ wooden dance floor. There is also a bar and a living room/lounge area next to the dance floor where you can get a drink and make yourself at home and watch TV. The walls are covered with Shag and Beach prints, neon shag signs, and memorabilia giving it a real beach club atmosphere. There is even an antique Coke machine from which you can purchase $1 bottles of cold beer.

Shag nights usually bring in around 100 people to socialize and dance to the DJ’s music. Different shag/beach DJ’s take control of the DJ booth each month playing everyone’s favorites and requests. The PSA shag club members provide a variety of finger foods and sweets. Smoking is not allowed inside but an outside patio (with heaters in the winter) is available for use by the smokers. Plenty of parking. Just a hint on finding “The Junkyard”... turn onto Pharr Mill Rd from Hwy 49 in Harrisburg, take the 2^nd right after the railroad tracks into a fenced drive into the “The Junkyard” aka- K & C Salvage.

In addition to the monthly parties, PSA also hosts an Annual Shaggin’ Gobbler Get-Together in November. This event is held at an alternate location due to the size of the party. This club also donates to local charities and donated $5000 in 2006. Shag lessons are also offered at “The Junkyard”, so check the PSA website for dates.
