About midway between the capital of NC and the coast, you’ll find the Eastern North Carolina Shag Club (ENCSC) in Greenville. The City Bistro on Greenville Blvd is where the ENCSC calls home. The club dances at the Bistro every Sunday from 5pm-10pm. Free beginner shag lessons are taught from 5-6, with open dancing following. There is a $3 cover charge to get in on Sunday. Three shag club DJ’s, Robbie Leggett, Billy Layton, and Jackie Haislip, rotate playing the tunes each evening for the crowd that usually numbers between 70-80. The City Bistro has a small 12’ x 20’ wood dance floor near the door for overflow or just for some practice dancing. The larger sunken 25’ x 18’ wood dance floor is in the middle of the dining area, with the DJ playing right next to the floor. A separate band stand is between the two floors where bands set-up other nights of the week. Wednesday nights are beach music nights with top beach bands playing. The club also comes out to support the Bistro on Wednesday nights. Admission is $5, $2 if you are a member of ENCSC. The Bistro also offers a full menu for those that want to dine and dance.

In addition to dancing weekly at the City Bistro, the Eastern North Carolina Shag Club also hosts several other larger parties during the year, one is held at Memories in Atlantic Beach. Several parties are co-hosted with The Sugarfoot Shag Club during the year, and few are hosted at the beach during SOS. This 162 member club also contributes yearly a minimum of $1000 and many teddy bears for needy children to the TEDI BEAR foundation in Pitt County.

This club, ENCSC, with it’s friendly members and good dancers, really come out and support the City Bistro and thank them for offering them 2 opportunities to dance each week. This is a really nice place to shag and listen to some beach music and enjoy some good bands. This is a club really dedicated to shag.
