“Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo“….or is that the Choo Choo Shag Club having a good time in “The Scenic City of the South”? If you are at the Tropicana Room at the Chattanooga Billiards Club at 110 Jordan Dr. off of Shallowford Rd. on a Thursday night, then it’s the shag club having a grand time. The club meets there every Thursday night at 7:30 to listen and dance to some great Carolina beach music. The Tropicana Room has a 34’ x 28’ wood dance floor with seating around it. There is a smoking area on one side of the floor and non smoking area on the other side. The Choo Choo Shag Club charges a $1 cover charge to pay for the rent and DJ for the evening. A usual crowd of 60-70 can be expected each week.

This 159 member club also has a re-up and Christmas party during the year at the East Ridge Convention Center where they bring the clubs own wood dance floor. The large, well-known event of the year for the Choo Choo Shag Club is the Shag Tracks weekend held in August. Tickets for this event sell out quickly. The club also donates to the Shrine Club and contributed over $8500 in 2007.

With the mountains, Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Aquarium nearby, you can enjoy a day of sightseeing and an evening of great fun and beach music. The Choo Choo shag club keeps the floor full dancing to the rhythm of the beach. Like one member said, “ We come to have fun!”

To get to the Tropicana Room, take Exit 5 off of I-75, Shallowford Rd. Take a left onto Shallowford Rd. Cross at light over Lee Rd., take the next right just past the Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant onto Jordan Rd, you will see the Chattanooga Billiards Club. The Tropicana Room is in the back of the building.
