Meandering along the Kanawha River through the mountains of West Virginia, is the capital city of Charleston. Believe it or not, beach music has made it’s way to West Virginia via the Charleston Area Shag Society. This club of 110 members began in 1998 with a group of around 50 people. They now dance every Thursday at the Charleston Moose Lodge to beach music played by the club DJ Kevin Twohig. Kevin and his wife Dee also teach lessons to the members. The Charleston Moose Lodge has a very scenic view of the Kanawha River from 2 sides of the large glassed upstairs room. The Charleston Area Shag Society or CASS is fortunate to have such a nice facility with a large 34’ x 40’ parquet dance floor. The facility is non-smoking except near the bar. In addition to the weekly dances at the Moose, CASS also has several large dances a year usually a Shamrock party, a summer membership party, a Christmas and New Year’s Eve party. They are also known for their annual West Virginia’s Shaggin on the Boulevard, a three day event held at the Moose Lodge.

You’ll also see many of these members visiting their sister clubs, Beckley Area, Bluefield Area, and Mid Ohio Valley, not to mention at the SOS events.

The Charleston Area Shag Society members take you in as one of their own. They have a great time dancing and they will dance till the last song is played! Nice facility with a beautiful sunset view, good meal, great music and dancing….adds up to a very enjoyable evening with a fun group of shaggers.
